Classic Rides Utah represents a 40 year effort born of a love for and an appreciation of antique and classic automobiles. That love really began well over 45 years ago when T. Jackson Smith (Jack Smith) received his first car on his 16th birthday—“Grandpa’s Model A”.
It had been in the Smith family since 1939 when Jack Smith's father Earl Smith sold his milk cow and bought the Model A for his father for $175. (The reason? Transportation to go fishing, of course!) Upon Grandpa’s passing in 1953 the car went to Earl Smith who then gave it to his son, Jack Smith, ten years later on his 16th birthday. Jack Smith in turn, gave it to his eldest son, Tom. In fact Tom Smith came home from the hospital in it when he was born, making it the first car he ever rode in and starting a new family tradition. Each of the next 6 kids came home from the hospital in a different old car, which will become theirs someday.
Since the day Jack received his first car, his love of old cars has grown and to this day he still collects and restores old cars. His collection is available for viewing at the Millstream Classic Car Museum in Willard Utah. Jack and Margo Smith are the owners of anywhere between 50 to 100 classic cars (the collection is fluid and is always changing). When they lived in Ogden, Utah, they had the Millstream Classic Car Museum located in the heart of downtown Ogden, Utah. Free to the public, it fast became an icon of Ogden. Listed with the Chamber of Commerce, in travel books, and on the Internet. The Smith's car collection was and still is a favorite with locals of Ogden and now Willard, Utah. In the summer of 2007, the Smiths bought a 4-acre farm and built a 7200 square foot red metal barn to house their car collection, and moved to Willard - taking their entire collection with them. It is their pleasure to share their collection with the public in order to become a part of many family's memorable days.
" While facilities and funds don’t permit the type of displays found in Las Vegas or the Ogden Union Station, most of my cars represent what the average “working man” could afford. My philosophy in owning and collecting and restoring old cars is—“use ‘em but don’t abuse ‘em”. Because most everything in here was driven regularly, most are not 100% show quality—as some critics would be quick to point out. They are just here for you to enjoy. I don’t know what it is about human nature that makes us want to hold on to the past but we all seem to do it. Most of my cars represent “the good olde days” a by- gone era, when a buck was a buck, a man’s word was his bond, when deals were made on a handshake, when people had time to talk, time to interact, and time for each other. This display is my attempt to share part of that bygone era with you." -Jack Smith-
Now T. Jackson Smith's son Samuel Smith, who came home from the hospital in the 1955 Crown Victoria, (listed on this site) has started this family owned and operated business: Classic Rides Utah. Building on the legacy and the love of old cars that began with his father. Because of Jack Smith's love and passion for old cars we have this opportunity to share them with you on your special day.
